David: A Memoir
David: A Memoir is a testament to how the author, Korey Steckle, navigated his way out of the wilderness using art, personal pain and creativity as his guide.
His goal? To help others by shedding a light into the dark recesses of his mind and his heart, which accompanied him through the ultimate highs and lows of his day-to-day existence. To break free from the shackles that held him down and twisted his outlook on his friends, his family and his lovers, on the world and on his bleak future at the time, is what he has sought from the beginning.
Korey feels like he represents and embodies dark and light. His art reflects his broken and fractured spirit. In his words laid bare, he attempts to do justice to this journey through culture, ideology, love, identity, hate, redemption and hope. Uplifting and soul-crushing are the fibres that encompass his survival story, one that continues to this day.
Korey found solace and a connection through art, music, literature and film. They were his lifeline. Through the persistence of expanding his horizons during unbearably trying times, Korey was able to overcome and strengthen his vision. He believes that there was purpose in the trauma he suffered.
For the individual who feels deeply displaced, disjointed and incongruent, this book is for you.
